Traversie statement on state-sanctioned Civil rights violation in rhode island

Warwick, RI: Yesterday, the unlawful prohibition of magazines for firearms under the “Rhode Island Large Capacity Feeding Device Ban Act of 2022” went into effect which turned hundreds of thousands of peaceable Rhode Islanders into potential felons.

Traversie, Republican candidate for state representative, released the following statement:

“On Wednesday, December 14, 2022 U.S. District Court Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr. denied a preliminary injunction against a newly enacted Rhode Island state law that bans firearm magazines and other feeding devices that hold or facilitate more than 10 rounds of ammunition. In his 59 page opinion, judge McConnell bloviates and regurgitates modern antigun dogma while demonstrating utter disregard for the supreme law of the land. The opinion itself reads as if Moms Demand Action authored the document on behalf of the activist judge. Ultimately, judge McConnell reaches a bizarre conclusion that magazines and other feeding devices are not integral components of firearms, necessary for proper and safe function, and somehow fall outside of the definition of arms in the context of the 2nd Amendment. He invents new terminology in order to subvert the limiting powers of the United States Constitution thereby justifying the unconstitutional law as ‘a valid exercise of police power.’ Sadly, judge McConnell appears to have placed his personal political beliefs and ideology above the law and failed to perform his official duty faithfully and impartially. A cursory review of judge McConnell’s political associations and donations begs the question of recusal.

Judge McConnell’s actions and denial of a preliminary injunction were predictable. He is merely one character in a cast of tyrants who played a part in one of the most egregious state-sanctioned civil rights violations in Rhode Island history. This law was never about public safety. It was always about bending the knee to a fringe minority backed by anti-American activists and lobbyists. My opponent, Speaker Shekarchi, played a significant role in passing this abominable legislation. As Mr. Speaker prepares for the next legislative session, I promise to be the personification of the political consequences that lie ahead.

To the hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders who are impacted by this unconstitutional law, do what is necessary to shield yourself and your family from the state violence that will be employed while the window of tyranny is open. We continue the fight for liberty and justice for all because that is what real Rhode Islanders do, that is what real Americans do. I remind you all that our state motto is
‘Hope’, keep it and never lose it for the celebrations of tyrants shall forever be short-lived.

Sic Semper Tyrannis”
